Vegetation Management Optimization (VMO)
A suite of software applications that manage strategic planning of tree-trimming maintenance work done along electric lines in New England and New York.
User Groups: Strategy Operations & Field Operations Staff & Contract Vendors
VMO web applications provide both VMO Strategy Operations and Field Operations a way to plan and execute vegetation management work plans in a digital, web-based environment.
The legacy digital planning tool suffered from low adoption, with the majority of VMO users reverting to Excel spreadsheets to avoid the legacy application’s user interface.
Carbon paper forms were stored in office filing cabinets and kept in folders in their work vehicles to manage their vegetation management work plans.
With siloed data managed at the local level, the decision was made to build a web application internally offering data transparency and accessibility that will increase efficiency while lowering subscription costs paid to third-party vendors.
Collaborating with the VMO product team, UX Research and Design worked with stakeholders to uncover pain points, and created research-supported solutions to streamline processes, increase efficiencies, save time, and lower costs.
